PANEL: (Un)bezahlte Arbeit in der Kunst – Wer backt den Kuchen?

Welche Rolle spielen Kunst, Kultur und Carearbeit im gesellschaftlichen Gleichstellungsdiskurs? Was ist sichtbar und was nicht? Wie schaffen wir Teilhabe und wie gerechte Arbeitsbedingungen zu Hause und im Kultursektor?

Diesen Fragen widmete sich die moderierte Paneldiskussion, die am 13. Dezember 2025 von 15–16.30 Uhr im Foyer des Ausstellungsraums Klingental in Basel stattfand. Der Anlass war eine Kooperation des Netzwerks art+care mit der Fachstelle Gleichstellung Basel-Stadt und fand im Rahmen der Ausstellung WORWORKWORK: Dimensions of Do’s während der Regionale 26 statt.

Im Gespräch waren Nahom Mehret (HYBRID PROJECT SPACE), Marcel Meury sowie Saskia Jaeggi (Fachstelle Gleichstellung Basel-Stadt). Gemeinsam mit den anwesenden Gäst*innen diskutierten sie über strukturelle Ungleichheiten, unsichtbare Arbeit und mögliche Strategien für mehr Fairness im Kunst- und Kulturbereich.

Ebenfalls an diesem Nachmittag fand vor dem Eingang des Ausstellungsraums Klingental Basel rund um eine Feuerstelle das partizipative Outdoor-Format SPARK THE FLAME! des Netzwerks art+care statt. Begleitet von künstlerischen Interventionen (Alessia Conidi mit Patricia Huijnen sowie Sophie Wohlgemuth) lud das Format zum gegenseitigen Austausch über Mental Load ein.

PANEL: (Un)paid Work in the Arts – Who Bakes the Cake?

What role do art, culture, and care work play in the societal discourse on gender equality? What is visible, and what is not? How can we foster participation and ensure equitable working conditions at home and in the cultural sector?

These questions were the focus of a moderated panel discussion held on December 13, 2025, from 3:00 to 4:30 p.m. in the foyer of the Klingental Exhibition Space in Basel. The event was a collaboration between the art+care network and the Basel-Stadt Gender Equality Office and took place as part of the exhibition WORWORKWORK: Dimensions of Do’s during Regionale 26.

In conversation were Nahom Mehret (HYBRID PROJECT SPACE), Marcel Meury, and Saskia Jaeggi (Basel-Stadt Gender Equality Office). Together with the guests in attendance, they discussed structural inequalities, invisible labor, and possible strategies for greater fairness in the arts and culture sector.

Also that afternoon, the art+care network’s participatory outdoor event SPARK THE FLAME! took place around a fire pit in front of the entrance to the Klingental Basel exhibition space. Accompanied by artistic interventions (Alessia Conidi with Patricia Huijnen and Sophie Wohlgemuth), the event invited participants to engage in a mutual exchange about mental load.
